Non-Discrimination Policy
As a private citizen commissioned by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the purpose of and with authority to serve as a notary public at-large all citizens and visitors of the Commonwealth, I have adopted the following non-discrimination policy:
I do not discriminate against and will not refuse to provide service to anyone on the basis of race, nationality, ethnicity, citizenship, religion or religious affiliation, political beliefs or affiliation, age, disability, sexual orientation, sexual or gender identity, military status or history, employment status, criminal history, marital or familial status, or financial status or abilities.
While the above non-discrimination policy applies to all clients and interactions, keep in mind that in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a notary public can refuse to notarize any document for any reason (“Handbook for Virginia Notaries Public”, 2021, p. 10; VA ยง 47.1-15). A notary must be confident as to the identity of the signer and must be comfortable with the notarial act requested. A notary should also feel safe with the client and the environment in which the act is being performed. If at any time any of these factors are in doubt, I will decline to perform a notarial act.
