Q: Can you accept my Social Security Card as proof of identity?
A: No. Only a valid, unexpired government-issued ID containing a photo and signature is acceptable, including the following: state-issued Driver's License or ID card, U.S. Passport or Passport Card, Foreign Passport, Permanent Resident Card, U.S. Military ID.

Q: Can you accept a copy of my Driver's License as proof of identity?
A: No. Only the physical ID, which contains verifiable security features, is acceptable.

Q: Does the Notary provide legal documents such as wills and powers-of-attorney?
A: No. Notaries cannot offer legal advice, which includes making suggestions pertaining to the crafting or legal interpretation of any document. The signer must obtain and provide their own document(s) - I recommend consulting a licensed attorney for obtaining and drafting legal documents. However, a Notary Signing Agent Does provide all loan documents (without legal advice) for borrowers, which are prepared specifically for the borrower by the lender.

Q: Can a Notary certify that a document is true?
A: No. Notaries can only certify signatures and the identity of the signer. Notaries Can administer an oath by which the signer affirms that the contents of the document are true to the best of the signer's knowledge. The appropriate wording of the statement and Notary Certificate can be added to the document and then Notarized.

Q: Will you marry me?
A: No. I'm already married and Virginia Notaries cannot perform marriages.

Q: Can you notarize my mother's/father's signature if they reside in a retirement or assisted living facility and do not have a valid government-issued ID?
A: Yes, if two credible witnesses (with valid ID) can be present who personally know the signer and do not pose a conflict of interest, such as being named in (or beneficiary of/to) the document.
